Sex-based harassment is unwelcome conduct which includes both sexual harassment, including but not limited to sexual assault, other forms of sexual violence and other sexual misconduct, and gender-based harassment. With the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) in March of 2013, The Campus Sexual Violence Act (Campus Sa VE) was amended as a federal law which requires colleges and universities to compile statistics on the number of incidents of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual violence and stalking reported to campus security authorities or local police agencies, in addition to crimes previously identified and included in the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).Any administrator, faculty member, student, staff, or applicant for employment or admission to the University, visitor, or third party who believes that he or she has been discriminated against on the basis of sex (including sexual harassment) or who has experienced an incident of sexual assault, sexual violence, or other sexual misconduct, may file a complaint with the Title IX Coordinator or Deputy Coordinator(s) as well as the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) in the U. This means that colleges and universities must report incidents of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking; adopt certain student discipline procedures, such as for notifying purported victims of their rights; and adopt certain institutional policies and practices to address and prevent campus sexual assault, such as providing both awareness and prevention programming, including bystander intervention, to the campus community.Through Campus Assessments, students will assess their campuses ability to meet the needs of young people and develop campaigns to improve campus policies and culture to ensure safe, responsive environments where all students can thrive.Contact us if you are interested in learning more about this program. It is designed to provide a more holistic and collaborative response to supporting child and youth victims and their families. The Vancouver CYAC includes the following stakeholders: AMS Sexual Assault Support Centre (604) 822-3475 Email: [email protected] Battered Women’s Support Services (604) 687-1868 or toll free: 1 (855) 687-1868 Email: [email protected] Society for Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse (604) 682-6482 Email: [email protected] Women's Hospital and Health Centre (604) 875-2424 or toll-free in BC: 1 (888) 300-3088 Email: [email protected] Cyber Tip Online Reporting for Child Exploitation 1 (866) 658-9022 Family Services of Greater Vancouver (604) 731-4951 Kids Help Phone 1 (800) 668-6868 Email: [email protected] of Children and Family Development 1 (877) 387-7027 Email: [email protected] National Center for Missing and Exploited Children 1 (800) 843-5678 Vancouver Aboriginal Child and Family Services Society (604) 872-6723 or toll-free 1 (877) 982-2377 Email: [email protected] Aboriginal Community Policing Centre Society (604) 678-3790 Email: [email protected] and Lower Mainland Multicultural Family Support Services (604) 436-1025 Email: [email protected] Police Department Victim Services (604) 717-2737 Email: [email protected] Rape Relief & Women’s Shelter (604) 872-8212 Email: [email protected] Victim Link BC 1 (800) 563-0808 or TTY: (604) 875-0885 Email: Victim Link [email protected] Drop in Centre Society (604) 669-WISH (9474) Email: [email protected] Against Violence Against Women (604) 255-6344 or toll-free: 1 (877) 392-7583 Email: [email protected] VPD Sex Crimes Unit can be contacted at (604) 717-2634 or [email protected]

Improving Campus Culture: We have an opportunity to create the kind of world we want to see starting on our campuses.Sexual assault victims, adults and children over the age of 14 years, are encouraged to seek the services of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program (SANE) at VGH.The Program is confidential and staff are trained to collect evidence that can be used in court, with the victim’s consent.Challenging Media Messages: Unfortunately, negative messages and information about sex and sexuality are pervasive in our culture.Books and movies fetishize virginity, mis-informed talk show hosts vilify birth control, and safer sex and consent are rarely part of sex on TV and in the movies.
